Bespoke, trauma-informed life coaching for justice involved mothers, giving them the space to BREATHE
A report in 2023 by the Universities of Sheffield and Salford found that there is a lack of evidence to show that the needs of mothers are being met through targeted intervention either in prison, or upon release.
Considering this, and the fact that most busy, often overwhelmed mothers long for the space and time to “just breathe”, emphasised the greater need women living chaotic, stressful lives and carrying trauma, grief and shame have, for safe, compassionate, non-judgemental spaces where they are able to pause and reflect on their maternal identity, needs and emotions, being seen and heard as mothers, no matter their parental status.
BREATHE was subsequently created by Alabaster Coaching as a seven-step, new and unique coaching model designed to offer justice involved mothers a bespoke, trauma-informed, forward looking life coaching service, that supports women in their individual journey toward a more empowered, positive, resilient and authentic maternal identity and future..
Its seven-step process is underpinned by research, an understanding of Matricentric Feminism*, the core supporting structures of developmental coaching and a knowledge of their lived experience, maternal needs and emotions. Including the complex challenges and stigma justice involved mothers face, often daily, within society and the justice system as they navigate their lives and being a “good enough” mother.
BREATHE offers mothers the vital time and space to go on a journey of self exploration to reflect on who they are, who and what is important to them and where they want to be, empowering them to consider how they are able to get there - offering hope and healing for the future.
